Matters of the Heart

1 Samuel 16:7 says “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” 

God does not look at a person’s skin tone, background, clothing apparel, or social status.  Rather, He looks at the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.”  Matthew 15:8

There are many in churches today who honor God with their mouths and actions, but their hearts are far from God.  Their heart – their true self – is consumed by worldly concerns.

God’s Word says the God searches the heart.

“I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.”  Jeremiah 17:10

We can rationalize the way we are living.   But God sees your true intentions.

The type of heart you have matters to God!

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.  Proverbs 4:23

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes:  but the Lord pondereth the hearts.  Proverbs 21:2
