Two Journeys, One Heart: Health Update (Dec. 19–20, 2022)

Walking through faith in hard times during breast cancer and TBI recovery.

Walking Through Faith in Hard Times
December 19-20, 2022

Walking through faith in hard times is challenging, especially while living with a traumatic brain injury, chronic illness, fatigue, and uncertainty. In these journal entries from December of 2022, I share my personal experiences of faith in hard times, trusting God through physical pain, recovery from TBI, family responsibilities, and daily life challenges.

Dec 19

4:50 woke to forearms itching fiercely. Applied cortisone cream and coconut oil with essential oils. Lord, please help my skin to stop itching. Headache. Thirsty.

Mouth Sores – Chemocare

Scripture: Luke 1:76-78; Philippians 1-4; Psalm 121; John 16:22-24

Dezirae has eye appointment this morning. Able to get an appt made for myself next month. Went Christmas shopping and trying to find smaller leggings for myself at the thrift store.

Dezirae treated me to Chick-fil-A. Once Jordon noticed we were there, he came and gave me a hug.

Dinner in crockpot. Trying to plan meals for week. My tummy hurts so I’m not very hungry. You know it’s chilly when the cat hugs the heater. Lol.

My muscles are aching to the bone. Drinking hot cocoa with coconut oil to help stomach. Thinking I’m having a hot flash. Cheeks are flushed and I’m hot. Changed from sweatpants to shorts.

Dinner smells and tastes horrible to me. The family liked it okay. First time trying homemade teriyaki sauce. Turned my stomach. Ate couple rolls to help. Later able to eat an apple.

It’s getting colder out. It’s been raining most of afternoon and evening. Bones ache fiercely. House warmer since Joe had us get the fireplace heater out. It works pretty good after not needing to use it for a few years. Low tonight is 44°.

Dezirae and I went over to Mom’s house to discuss Christmas dinner. Dezirae decided to drive because it’s raining. I ran to car and realized halfway there I forgot to put my turban on my head. The rain is cold!! Brr!! Meal planned and who’s doing what. Dad was sweet and got his ball cap to let me borrow to keep my head dry. He’s feeling little better. Still need miracle to get the needed testing done asap. Lord, please lay Your healing hand on him.

I’ve had a decent day. Walked 12,557 steps today. Pretty good for me. Arms ache. Forgot to do my exercises, but with all the looking through bins at thrift store, wrapping gifts, cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, folding and putting away clothes I was able to do today it may have made up for them. Arms haven’t itched since early this morning after I lathered them with the coconut essential oils rub. Thank goodness. Upper chest aches. Probably did too much today, but I’ll take good days when I can get them. Think the colder weather is making my bones and muscles throb deeply and intensely. Took Tylenol to help.

Nose a little runny. Rt ear aches periodically. Chin itches. Throat feels slightly swollen. Had difficulty swallowing pm vitamins (PEA, magnesium, turmeric complex, probiotic, C, Zyrtec). Also drank swig of colloidal silver. Swished with peppermint mouthwash.

Thankful

Dec 20

6:00ish woke to both forearms itching. Chilly. Joints and bones ache deeply. Headache. Eyes watery. Nose stuffy. Hands throbbing. Neck hurts. Feel hot like I have a fever, but chilly at same time.

Scripture: Luke 2:1, 4-5; 1 Timothy 1-6; Romans 12:12-13

Dental appointment for Dezirae. They don’t plan on doing x-rays until next fall? Ugh. I request x-ray for next month and schedule follow up. Dezirae chooses frames for glasses. They’ll be ready in 2-3 weeks. Stop at store on way home for a few groceries. Inflation is killing the grocery budget. $12 for 36 eggs. Ugh  seriously wondering if we need to start raising our own chickens?

Home for 20 minutes and Dezirae back out the door to help a friend. Sit to eat lunch and rest. I’m not in to watching a Christmas movie today. Feel bad that we cannot afford but one present each this year. Plus the cold rain is making me hurt exponentially. No energy.

Checked GoFundMe account to see if account and donations have been verified. Unable to figure out and navigate. Decided to check bank account. Donations have been transferred to account. Thank you, Lord. We’ll be able to buy one more present each. I shared blessing with Joe. He said he knew God was going to answer because I asked Him to provide just last week. I cried and thanked God for answering.

Make fresh juice. I need more apples. Running low on carrots. Get heaters running. Fold blankets. Get message from someone in Norway inquiring about my lightning strike incident and symptoms and what I did for recovery. Don’t usually answer strangers, but feel a push to answer. Able to give witness for Christ a little. Person mad about his incident happening. Informed him that was normal. Accidents happen. Man usually tries to find a reason for the incident or error to find fault. Sometimes things happen to test our faith and make us stronger in the journey.

Made Peanut Butter Blossoms with Hershey Kisses. Time for dinner. Where did time go? I didn’t even get a chance to rest. I’m exhausted.

Dinner is spaghetti and garlic bread. I didn’t have energy for salad.

Throat starts feeling scratchy and a bit swollen. Sniffles. Forearms itchy. Headache. Still scratchy a couple hours later. Ask Joe to check my throat. Throat not visibly swollen.

Need to help Dezirae clean up kitchen. Skin still itchy.

Dr Beakley’s office return’s call. Since I’m having an axillary dissection, I’ll be coming home with a drain bag. I must have my ring fingers clear of colored polish for the surgery.

Yeast overgrowth is still apparent in navel. It’s still bright red and itchy. Tongue has faint coating of white. Itchy throat might mean it’s down my esophagus. I’d rather that be the case. Applied topical cream. Took bedtime vitamins.

Thankful for … 1. God’s unexpected blessings. 2. Dezirae was able to earn some money today. She’s willing to give it up to help with Christmas. 3. Gaining a little more energy 4. Joe says my head looks like I got a buzz cut.
