The Whole Armour of God

The Whole Armour of God

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ephesians 6:10-18

 The “principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places” are what we contend with in the Christian walk. Satan is a formidable adversary (1 Peter 5:8). We must rely on God’s power and put on all of His armor in order to fend off their attacks.

When in combat, it’s critical for our military troops or police enforcement to be equipped properly. If they enter battle without all of their equipment, it may be a fatal error! The Christian must also be equally ready and equipped for spiritual fights. Without proper preparation, our attempts to meet the problems of this life have a very real chance of fatally injuring or permanently damaging our souls. Without the power and protection that God provides, we cannot possibly hope to stand steady in this life.

We’re up against a formidable force that wants to destroy the church of Christ. Even though we know we will win, we still have to fight until Christ comes back because Satan is always at war with anyone who stands with the Lord. With His Holy Spirit residing within us and His armor surrounding us, God has given us the supernatural abilities we need to vanquish Satan.

Recall Jesus’ words to Peter when you are feeling discouraged: “Upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18).
