Armor of God: Living Armored Daily

Introduction

Throughout this year, we have been studying the Armor of God, learning about each piece of spiritual armor and how God equips us to stand firm against the enemy. As we enter the eleventh month of our study, our focus is Armor of God: Living Armored Daily. Knowing about the armor is only the beginning; we must also learn how to apply its truths in our everyday lives. How does God’s armor influence our thoughts, attitudes, decisions, and relationships? Through prayer, the study of God’s Word, and daily obedience, we can learn to walk in His strength and remain spiritually prepared for whatever challenges come our way. Let’s explore what it means to live armored daily!

Key Scripture

Colossians 3:12–17
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Prepared for the Day Ahead

Have you ever noticed how important it is to have the right equipment for a particular task? A gardener wears gloves to protect against thorns, a football player wears cleats for better traction, and a welder wears a protective helmet to guard against sparks and intense light. Each is equipped with what is needed to perform the task safely and effectively.

As Christians, we also need the proper equipment for the work God has called us to do. We face temptations, discouragement, spiritual struggles, and situations that challenge our faith. God has not left us to face these things in our own strength. He has provided spiritual armor to help us stand firm against the enemy’s schemes.

In Ephesians 6:10–18, the Apostle Paul instructs believers to put on the whole armor of God. This armor is not something we create for ourselves. It comes from God, and we depend upon His strength to stand against the spiritual battles we face.

As we enter the eleventh month of our Armor of God Study, our focus shifts toward living armored daily. Learning about each piece of armor is important, but we must also put these truths into practice. God’s armor is not merely something to study; it reminds us how to live each day in dependence upon Him.

Why Should We Live Armored Daily?

Paul writes in Ephesians 6:10–11:

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Notice that our strength comes from the Lord, not ourselves. We cannot depend upon our own wisdom, determination, or abilities to overcome every spiritual challenge. We need God’s truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and Word to guide and strengthen us.

Putting on God’s armor daily is a reminder to begin each day with our hearts and minds prepared to follow Him. We do this through prayer, reading and applying Scripture, trusting God’s promises, and choosing obedience even when it is difficult.

Although some people think of spiritual warfare only in terms of extraordinary confrontations with evil, many of our daily battles occur in ordinary circumstances. We may be tempted to respond in anger, believe a lie, give in to discouragement, hold on to bitterness, or compromise what we know to be right.

Living armored daily means recognizing these challenges and responding in ways that honor the Lord.

Recognizing the Enemy’s Tactics

Scripture reveals several ways the enemy works against God’s people. Understanding these tactics helps us recognize our need to remain spiritually prepared.

1. The Enemy Is a Tempter

In Matthew 4:1–11, Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness. He challenged Jesus to act independently of the Father’s will and attempted to draw Him away from obedience.

The enemy still tempts us to doubt God’s promises, question His provision, and rely upon our own solutions rather than trust Him. When life becomes difficult, we may be tempted to take shortcuts, compromise our convictions, or seek satisfaction in things that cannot truly meet our spiritual needs.

How do we stand firm? We follow the example of Jesus by answering temptation with the truth of God’s Word. We remember that God is faithful and that obedience to Him is always the right path.

Daily application: When temptation comes, stop and consider what God’s Word says. Choose to trust His wisdom rather than follow your feelings or the world’s advice.

  1. The Enemy Is an AccuserRevelation 12:10 describes Satan as the accuser of the brethren. The enemy would love for us to become so consumed with our failures and weaknesses that we forget who we are in Christ. He may use our past mistakes, present struggles, or feelings of inadequacy to discourage us. However, there is a difference between the conviction of the Holy Spirit, which leads us to repentance, and accusations that seek to overwhelm us with shame and hopelessness. When we sin, we should confess it to the Lord and seek His forgiveness. But we do not have to live defeated by sins that we have confessed or believe that our weaknesses make us unworthy of God’s love. Our identity rests in Christ and His finished work, not in our ability to be perfect in our own strength. Psalm 34:5 reminds us that those who look unto the Lord are not left covered in shame.

Daily application: When feelings of guilt or inadequacy arise, examine your heart before the Lord. Confess any sin He reveals, receive His forgiveness, and remember the truth of who you are in Christ.

  2. The Enemy Is a LiarJesus identified Satan as a liar in John 8:44. From the beginning, the enemy has attempted to distort God’s Word and cause people to question His truth.Today, we encounter messages that contradict Scripture, encourage compromise, and cause confusion about what God has said. We may also misunderstand one another, assume the worst, or allow disagreements to create division among believers.God calls us to stand firmly upon His truth while treating others with grace and love. This is one reason we must allow the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly. The better we know Scripture, the better equipped we are to recognize error and respond with wisdom.Daily application: Test what you hear and believe against the truth of God’s Word. Refuse to spread gossip, assume motives without evidence, or allow misunderstandings to destroy relationships. Speak truth in love and seek peace whenever possible.

  1. The Enemy Seeks to Hinder God’s WorkThroughout Scripture, we see the destructive effects of evil, injustice, hatred, and oppression. The enemy seeks to hinder the work of God and turn people away from His truth. We must be careful not to attribute every hardship or disagreement directly to Satan. However, we should recognize that sin and evil are real and that our response must be guided by God’s Word.As Christians, we are called to stand against evil, show compassion to those who suffer, speak the truth, and demonstrate the love of Christ. We do not overcome darkness by adopting its methods. We overcome by standing in God’s truth and walking in obedience to Him.Daily application: Look for opportunities to demonstrate Christ’s love through kindness, compassion, prayer, and practical help. Stand for what is right while remembering that the people around us need the truth and grace of the Gospel.

Putting on the Armor Through Daily Living

Colossians 3:12–17 gives us a beautiful picture of what an armored life looks like in practice.

Paul tells believers to put on mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering, forgiveness, and love. He also instructs us to allow the peace of God to rule in our hearts and the Word of Christ to dwell in us richly.

These qualities do not replace the armor described in Ephesians 6. Instead, they show us how a life grounded in Christ should be reflected in our daily conduct.

Living armored means:

  • Choosing truth when dishonesty would be easier.
  • Practicing righteousness when compromise is tempting.
  • Seeking peace rather than creating unnecessary conflict.
  • Exercising faith when circumstances are uncertain.
  • Remembering our salvation when discouragement comes.
  • Using God’s Word to guide our thoughts, decisions, and responses.
  • Praying continually and depending upon God’s strength.

Notice that living armored also affects how we treat other people. We are instructed to forgive as Christ forgave us, to love one another, and to let the peace of God rule in our hearts.

It is not enough to know the verses about spiritual warfare if we refuse to apply God’s Word when someone hurts us, frustrates us, or disagrees with us. Our spiritual preparation should influence our attitudes, our words, and our actions.

Living armored daily means allowing God’s truth to shape the way we respond to the people and circumstances He brings into our lives.

Remember Who You Are in Christ

Before Paul describes the armor of God in Ephesians 6, he reminds believers of the spiritual blessings and identity they have in Christ throughout Ephesians 1.

As Christians, we belong to the Lord. We have been redeemed through Christ, adopted into God’s family, and given the promise of an eternal inheritance.

We do not put on God’s armor to earn His love or prove that we are strong enough to handle life on our own. We stand in the strength He supplies because we already belong to Him.

This truth gives us confidence as we face the challenges of each day. Our confidence is not in our own abilities but in the Lord who saves us, strengthens us, and equips us to stand.

Romans 8:37 declares, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

We may experience difficult days, temptations, disappointments, and spiritual struggles, but we do not face them alone. God has provided what we need to remain faithful to Him.

Live Armored Today

As we continue our Armor of God Study, let us move beyond simply learning about the pieces of God’s armor and consider how we can live out these truths every day.

Before the day’s demands begin, take time to pray and seek the Lord. Read His Word and ask Him to help you apply it. Remember that your strength comes from Him, and remain alert to the spiritual challenges you may encounter.

When temptation comes, stand upon His truth. When accusations discourage you, remember your identity in Christ. When lies create confusion, return to Scripture. When others hurt you, ask God to help you respond with truth, grace, and forgiveness.

And throughout the day, let your words and actions reflect the One you serve.

We cannot predict everything that will happen today, but we can choose to walk into it trusting the Lord and depending upon His strength.

God has not called us to live spiritually unprepared. He has provided His armor so that we can stand firm in Him, whatever the day may bring.

So put on the whole armor of God, remain grounded in His Word, walk in His love, and live armored daily!

A Question for Reflection
What is one practical way you can live out the truth of God’s armor in your thoughts, words, or actions today?

Remember, the Armor of God is not just a lesson to learn. It is a truth to live by every day.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for providing everything we need to stand firm in Christ. As we step into our day, help us to live armored daily—anchored in Your truth when tempted, secure in our identity when accused, and guided by Your Word when surrounded by confusion.

Forgive us when we rely on our own strength. Fill us afresh with Your Spirit so that our thoughts, words, and actions reflect Your grace, especially when facing difficult people or circumstances. Equip us to walk in obedience and love.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I pray that throughout this month you will remain aware of God’s presence as you journal His Word, and that His Spirit will guide and surround you in every part of your life.

Suggested Scripturere Journal Reflection

For each day, consider including these four prompts in your journal:

  1. Scripture: Write out the day’s passage.
  2. Observation: What does this passage teach me about God, His Word, or living out my faith?
  3. Application: How can I apply this truth to my daily walk and spiritual battles?
  4. Prayer: What do I need to ask God to help me practice today?

Monthly Challenge: Each morning, read your day’s Scripture and ask the Lord to help you put His truth into practice. At the end of the day, reflect on how you responded to the challenges you encountered and where you needed to depend more fully upon His strength.

Remember: The goal is not simply to study the Armor of God but to live each day equipped by His truth, strengthened by His power, and guided by His Word.
