The First Word of the Morning

Good morning and Happy Sunday!

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. Psalm 5:3

☀️As Psalm 5:3 reminds us, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.”

God is a prayer-hearing God, and He longs for our first thoughts. As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:5–8, prayer doesn’t need to be rigid, formal, or mechanical to reach His ears. Yet, while it shouldn’t be bound by hollow traditions, it shouldn’t be haphazard either.

David approached God with intentionality. He made it a point to pray in the morning because he wanted to honor God at the very threshold of his day. This simple, faithful habit set the tone for an entire day dedicated to the Lord.

Why the Morning Matters

• A Fresh Start: Morning represents the beginning of a new cycle of grace—an opportunity for divine renewal and daily restoration.

• An Act of Dependence: By declaring, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning,” David showed a deep sense of urgency, acknowledging God as his ultimate source of strength and guidance.

• Looking Up: To “look up” implies expectation. It means prayer isn’t just rushing through a list; it is lifting our eyes in anticipation, confident that God is listening and ready to meet us.

Let today begin not with the weight of the world, but with the voice of praise. Direct your prayer to Him first, and then step forward, looking up to see how He will guide your day.

Reflection:

What is one small way you can quiet your morning routine tomorrow to bring your first thoughts to God?

Praying that as we gather today, we take a moment to lift our voices to Him first, trading any morning anxieties for His strength and guidance.

Looking forward to worshiping and serving alongside you all today! Have a blessed Sunday!
