Two Journeys, One Heart: Jan. 5–6, 2023 Health Update

The first days of January were difficult as I continued my healing journey after cancer and a lightning strike. I was still recovering from surgery and dealing with pain, itching, exhaustion, and new symptoms. I also had doctor appointments to arrange and daily responsibilities to manage.

Even in the midst of these struggles, God continued to show His faithfulness. He gave me strength through Scripture, prayer, family, and small answered prayers. These journal entries are part of my ongoing healing journey, reminding me that God is with me through difficult seasons and gives me grace and strength for each day.

January 5

5:00 arms itching fiercely. Joe checks my forehead before leaving for work.

6:00 still not sleeping well. Arms started itching fiercely middle of night sometime. End up applying essential oils pain relief rub. Both shoulders throbbing as if out of joint. Rt shoulder popped during night, which caused much pain. Think I might need to take ibuprofen for a little while. The extreme pain is getting better of me.

Scripture: Isaiah 1:16-17; Proverbs 3-5; Isaiah 41:9-10; Romans 8: 28

Up to help Dezirae study for quiz, share scripture and pray with her before school. Load of linens in washer. Load in dryer. I’m freezing and exhausted. Going back to bed for little bit. Playing wholetones music.

Part of my left hand feels bruised and hurts. Unsure of how that might have happened.? Headache.

Slept until 10:00 when the phone rang. I’ve been approved for financial assistance for the lumpectomy physical therapy. Unfortunately, they are only open Monday thru Thursday so I had to make appointment on one of those days. First apt is an evaluation.

Called Dr George’s office to figure out what’s going on with the appointments. Receptionist informed me that Monday’s appointment was for the immune therapy. I reminded her that my appointments are supposed to be on Fridays due to limitations of car usage. She canceled Monday’s appointment. As for the other appointments, she’ll have nurse call me back.

Joe let me know that our Winter Revival has been canceled, but rescheduled with Bro Jay Burge. I’m excited. We will also possibly be getting to walk to officially receive our bachelor diploma’s. Yay!

Decided to push myself to go to church since I’m feeling a little better though not much. Able to get decorations on communion table changed out then I was done. Had to sit and rest.

Dezirae starting to not feel well. Makes me wonder if I’m just fighting a virus on top of recovering from surgery.

Mom helped take most of the Christmas decorations down before church. I’m thankful. I’ll be glad when I’m healed enough to do more things, but for now I must be joyful for the resting.

Played offertory with right hand only.

Joe helped me do a little grocery shopping. Told him about my left hand hurting and feeling bruised. He informed me that I slapped the wall in middle of night.

January 6

5:30 alarm set to get up to help Dezirae study for her tests/quizzes today. Not making it this early. Hit snooze several times. My whole body stiff and throbbing. Joints ache. Muscles hurt. Sutures hurt. Stuffy nose.

6:20 finally awake enough to get up. It’s chilly in the house 63°. Check temp for the day 67°/39°. Better turn fireplace on to take chill off. I’m hoping Joe can get the a/c fixed without having to call our a/c man.

I’m really thinking that I’m dealing with either a yeast overgrowth or UTI again. My tongue is showing signs of thrush. I’ll let surgeon’s office know when I call to cancel appointment today. Also, canceling appt with Radiologist today too. I just need to rest. Brewing herbal tea with oil of oregano and peppermint to fight what ails me.

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:13; Genesis 19-21;

Can Candida Make You Feel Hot? Like Hot Flashes?

Through research and talking with my nurses,  we assessed that I’m dealing with a Candida overgrowth throughout my body. Prescription given. Benadryl suggested to aid with the itching on my arms. I’m also using herbal remedies to combat it. Out of desperation, I applied straight aloe vera gel to help calm the itch. It took a little bit, but I finally have some relief from the itching. I have an abundance of aloe plants growing so it’s a natural resource at my fingertips. Thank you, Lord!

After spending hours on the phone today with doctors trying to get upcoming appointments straightened out and squared away, Joe and I were able to go out on an impromptu lunch date. I enjoyed the endless salad at Olive Garden. It’s something I’ve been craving for a while. I ate more today than I have all week. Thank you, Lord, for providing the gift card.

My wounds from surgery are slowly healing. I’m beginning to get feeling back in my left arm. I have quite a bit of bruising near the surgery area under my arm. It’s pretty sensitive, but I’m applying essential oils to aid in healing.

Drainage site has closed up on its own. Yay! Able to use just a band-aid now. It feels good to be able to sleep without constrictions tonight.

Praises:

*Drainage tube removed.

*God provided the need for lymphedema physical therapy.

*God provided for Joe and I to go on a lunch date.

*Aloe vera is an easy-growing plant.

*God gives a song and Scripture in times of need.

*My hair is now about an inch long

Prayer Requests:

*I get to feeling better soon.

*Continued healing from surgery.

*God to provide needs.

*Direction in chosing a new PCP as mine left the practice at the end of December.
