Two Journeys, One Heart: Health Update (Jan 13-14, 2023)

Walking Through Faith in Hard Times

January 13–14, 2023

Walking through faith in hard times can be challenging, especially when life is filled with physical pain, fatigue, health concerns, and uncertainty. During this season of my life, I was recovering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI) while also dealing with other health challenges and the responsibilities of everyday life.

These journal entries from January 2023 give a glimpse into what those days looked like. Even in the midst of pain, medical treatments, exhaustion, and uncertainty, I was learning to trust God one day at a time.

January 13

6:30 awake every few hours due to needing to use restroom or severe pain in shoulders.

I knew putting up the bulletin board would hurt, but it needed to be done.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:19-20; Proverbs 12-13; Genesis 34-37;

Follow-Up appointment
BP 119/80.   weight 160.  Blood work is within normal range. Yay!

I’m still dealing with rash and itching from allergic reaction after surgery on 12/29.  While the candida issue has eased some, I’m still dealing with that as well.

My nurse is going to research what they can do to help. She also suggested some natural remedies.

Praise: I rec’d email stating there were updates to my medical records. The set up has been changed so I chose to check things out.

There’s an immunization area. When I opened it there were listings for zoster, pneumococcal, flu, and COVID vaccines and each one had “completed” next to it.

I got upset at first thinking they had given me vaccines I had verbally rejected.

I inquired today. The nurses checked my files. System requires an answer so they put completed to show they have asked the question.

Another nurse checked my files and it clearly states that I have rejected those vaccines/shots. I explained why. They apologized for the misunderstanding and assured me that they have not given me any of them. Whew! Praise the Lord.

Now to start the new immune therapy. First time will take 90 minutes to make sure I’m not going to have an allergic reaction.

Getting 1st immune therapy treatment of Kadcyla today.
Zofran (anti-nausea) 30 minutes
Kadcyla (immune therapy) 90 minutes

10:00 starting to feel really drowsy. Need to use restroom.

10:39 think I may need a nap. Slept for about 30 minutes. Listening to music on Spotify with my earbuds.

2:30 finally home. I’m exhausted and need a nap.

Sometimes faith in hard times doesn’t look like accomplishing great things. Sometimes it simply means resting when your body needs rest and trusting God to carry you through the next moment.

January 14

6:50 slept better last night though got up couple times to use restroom

Shoulders and arms are throbbing. Muscles are randomly spasming throughout my body. Eyes a little watery. Nose stuffy.

Back of left arm hurts as if still severely bruised. Surgery site on head throbbing.

Song: Greater is He that is in Me

Scripture: John 4:20-21; Genesis 38-40; Matthew 11:28-30

Serving even when tired
Ladies Mtg this morning went well. Perfect attendance and they were more interactive. Blesses my heart.

Wore out by time I got home. Guys going hunting. Jakob called to check on me. Need a nap. Slept for couple hours.
Holly came over for a visit. Washed couple loads of clothes.  Asked Dezirae to take me to store to pick up my prescriptions and few groceries.

Dinner cooking while working on quarterly calendar. Guys got home when it was just about ready.
Left arm itching fiercely. To me it looks like new rash forming, but Joe does not agree. Took pm vitamins plus Zyrtec.  Applied steroid cream to ease itching.
Changed gauze on head. Applied frankincense and a coconut oil blend.
I’m freezing from head to toes.
