Walking Through Faith in Hard Times
December 6-7 2022
Walking through Faith in Hard Times is challenging, especially when facing illness, fatigue, and uncertainty. In these journal entries from a few days in December 2022, I share my personal experiences of living out faith in hard times each day, trusting God through physical trials, family responsibilities, and daily life challenges.

4:30 woke needing to use restroom. Actually slept 6 hours straight. Left arm throbbing. Area around inside elbow feels swollen. Massaged it some to see if it’ll help. Left hand tingling. Headache.
Scripture: John 10:14-15, 27-28

Tired. Cat nap for ten minutes. Ended napping for thirty minutes. Need to get up to help Dezirae study for a test. Begin preparing items for dinner – homemade baked beans, homemade potato salad, and chicken patty sandwiches. My left arm is throbbing. It feels as if a string of veins are wound too tight and are about to pop. Center of arm around elbow is a little swollen. Trouble with constipation, but at least I know natural remedies to help ease that instead of OTC medicine.
Called Dr to ask about my arm. Balanced checkbook. Paid bills for November. Taste buds are way off today. Mouth tastes horrible – tastes like a chemically barf. It’s making me nauseous. Decided to try potato salad for lunch. Tasted halfway decent. Tried peanut butter. It’s tasting horrible. Even water tastes awful. Sorted socks. Back now throbbing. Need to rest a while.

Went to Bellingrath Gardens tonight to show our support for Dezirae and the LBA choir and orchestra. They performed tonight. Favorite part was spending quality time with family. I enjoyed looking at the Christmas lights afterwards.

Stopped at store on way home to get few items for dinner. Picked up Christmas cards from Walgreens. Choked on my food. I took too big of a bite. Throat and incisions throbbing now. Ugh. Tummy hurts. Feels bloated.
Dec 7
6:00 didn’t sleep well last night. Stomach hurts something fierce and felt bloated. Neck hurts. Slept on it wrong. Headache. Both arms stinging. Feel like I have a fever, but thermometer not registering one. Exhausted. Feel like I was in a fight and beat up pretty bad. Upper arms throbbing.
Scripture: John 11:25; Acts 20; Psalm 95:1-3
Saw neighbor as Dezirae leaves for school. She thanked us for our help in looking out for her. Didn’t realize she didn’t know I was diagnosed with cancer. Told her briefly about having surgery last week and that there’s no evidence of disease (NED). Praise God. Told her I’d have to tell her about it in depth later. She praised God with me and told me to keep glowing.
I don’t understand how I look like I’m glowing, especially when I don’t feel well, but to God be the glory.
I’m not feeling well. Going back to bed for little bit.
Trying to think outside the box to have a nice Christmas for our kids. My brain hurts. Playing wholetones music.
Not feeling well today. Decided to take BP. It’s 149/106 hr 73. Took 1/2 tab of BP Rx.
