Two Journeys, One Heart: Health Update (Jan 23-24, 2023)

This cancer journey health update covers January 23–24, two days that were both physically and emotionally exhausting. I was trying to keep up with everyday responsibilities while dealing with pain, itching, exhaustion, headaches, and uncertainty about my cancer treatment. There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and unsure where to turn for help, but I continued asking God for wisdom and direction. He provided encouragement through conversations with other cancer survivors, good news at my dermatologist appointment, approval for physical therapy, and even a fun evening with friends. These days reminded me that even when my body and mind are weary, God continues to provide what I need one step at a time.

January 23

5:00 woke to arms throbbing and stuffy nose. Head hurts. Sneezing

Song:  ♫ That name is Jesus ♫

Scripture: James 1:5; Matthew 9-12; Proverbs 19-20; Leviticus 1: 4

Tasks: pick up house from hurricane weekend, call PCP for Joe and Jordon, find prayer coins for church, design and price posters for church, try to find a local BC support group, plan meals for week, make homemade tomato sauce, dehydrate celery, dermatologist appt, drop off paperwork to oncologist office, and pick up Rx for Joe and I

Its been an emotional roller coaster of a day. It’s tough navigating when you don’t know where to look for help. I ask God for wisdom and direction before starting. Able to reach out to a BC survivor and chat with her this evening. It helped. She even gave insight I didn’t have before and invited me to a BC support group on Facebook. They’ve already asked me to tell my story. Told them I would do so tomorrow after I’ve had some sleep.

My shoulders keep trying to pop out of place. Oh, I received call today that I’ve been approved for physical therapy. I’m to call to schedule my appointments.

Dermatologist appointment went well.  Nurse said that my scalp looked good. It’s healing well and no infection.
She also suggested an all-natural product for sensitive skin (Vanicream) to help with the rash on my arms. She agreed with me that gut health is important and encouraged me to continue working to improve my gut health.

Able to get in 6,443 steps today. Explains partially why I’m exhausted. Whole body aches deeply. Arms itching even after applying miracle gel. Feet throbbing, cold, and stinging. Low back throbbing intensely. Cording issues in left arm – can occasionally feel cord from top of shoulder to fingertips.

Thankful for
1. Good report at dermatologist appt
2. Approved for physical therapy
3. Able to be a blessing to nephews with milk and cheese crackers
4. Able to help my mom with their laundry and buy her a few groceries

January 24

5:47 able to get a decent amount of sleep, but had to take Benadryl to ease itching to do so. Having trouble waking. Need to get up to help Dezirae study for quiz/test. I’m so sleepy. Head hurts. Whole body stiff and throbbing. Deep bone aching. Lights bothersome. Thirsty.

Scripture: Galatians 6:1; 1 Samuel 2:9; Proverbs 21-22; Matthew 13-14

Apparently experiencing weird smells can be associated with either a deficiency, a temporal lobal damage or olfactory nerve damage. May need to mention it to oncologist at next appointment.

Tasks: food pantry, can tomato sauce, finish dehydrating celery, order prayer coins, random act of kindness – sent KS tube of Arnica gel, balance checkbook and pay bills, fill bird feeder, post couple items to sell

Listening to wholetones music while reading my Bible. It’s soothing to my weary, troubled soul.

Matthew 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Headache. Whole body is stinging with pain. I’m exhausted. Sores on back of throat and tongue aren’t as pronounced.

Heaven sent groceries are put away. Box started to share with church family. Diced onions and peppers put in dehydrator. I’m wearing out. Taking a breakfast break.

The longer I sit the more I hurt. My head is pounding. At least I only have d couple items left on task list to do.

Keeli returned my call from y’day. Gave me date, location, and time of next in person support group.
Able to talk with her about what’s been going on. She was able to explain things better about radiation process, and some medical terms regarding the cancer She doesn’t think I’m in a good place to make any major decisions right now especially since I’m still dealing with skin issues. Assured me that Dr Galle has my best interest at heart and will be willing to work with me throughout the process. Suggested I take couple of weeks to heal and get my mind and spirit in a better place. Need to go through treatments with positive energy. I’m not there right now. Keeli said she’d be praying for me.

2:00 Took Tylenol for headache. Remembered to take morning vitamins. Starting load of clothes. Balancing checkbook. Begin preparing mileage info for taxes.

Need to rest a while. My eyes and head hurt. Tired.

Enjoyed going out for smoothies with friends – a girl’s night.

Intense itching on arms, especially left side. Tried acv, calendula cream, coconut oil with essential oils, miracle II cream, steroid cream in 20-minute increments. Not helping. Ended up washing arms off with warm water and a cloth. Applied colloidal silver then steroid cream. Took Benadryl and went to bed. My bones ache fiercely like a storm is coming.

Thankful for
1. Girls outing
2. God’s provision of food
3. Able to talk with someone about my cancer journey and decision. Feel good about waiting couple weeks to allow my body to heal before making a decision.
