Two Journeys, One Heart: Health Update (Jan 31, 2023)

Practicing faith through chronic illness isn’t about ignoring the physical struggle, but finding hope right in the middle of it. Between physical therapy, severe fatigue, and sudden flare-ups, January 31st brought its share of challenges, but quiet gratitude and daily Scripture provided a steady anchor.

January 31

4:00 woke from a bad dream

Woke to the song: All things work together for our good playing in my mind.

Hot from ankles to head, but feet are cold. Whole body hurts deeply and intensely. Both arms feel as if they’re swollen twice the size numbish and tingling. They are not swollen any more than they have been. Muscles on left side of torso spasming. Head itches. Nose stuffy, congested, and a bit runny. Left arm itching a little.

I’m tired of taking medicine and vitamins. Wondering if I should stop for a bit? I’m tired of hurting and not feeling well. Maybe I’m just tired and need to rest more?

Scripture: Psalm 86:5; Proverbs 31; Matthew 26

Face getting really hot and feels flushed. Forehead cool to the touch. Chilling sensation across chest.

Getting sleepy. Taking short nap.

6:30 Glad I set a second alarm. I would’ve overslept. Need to take kids to school so I can have vehicle for my appointment this afternoon.
Stopped at fruit market and grocer store on way home. Greens didn’t look good so I decided on potatoes for food preservation.

Drank hot cocoa with Diatomaceous Earth and coconut oil.
Prepared orange slices for making homemade vitamin C powder. They covered four trays. Leftover mashed potatoes covered two more trays. Sliced a baking potato for au gratin potatoes, which covered two trays. Will take most of day to dehydrate.

Salad and leftover beefy fried rice for lunch. Plus glass of grape juice and water.

Flexitouch Massage for lymphadema

Physical therapy
Flexitouch massage to left arm for 45 minutes. Actually fell asleep for a few moments. Scared awake when a nurse came in to unhook me.

Taught me lymphatic massage to help keep my lymphatic system draining and reduce swelling. Gave me exercises to do to help strengthen the muscles in my arm. Mentioned the sensitivity in my arm post-surgery. She will teach me a desensitization process. I will be fitted for a compression sleeve next visit. Eyes started tearing due to instead bone pain in both arms.

8:00 Decided to work on February Journaling Scripture calendar and schedule for posting on blog. Thankfully, I had most of work already done. I just needed to create it with pictures and save in files.

While working on that, I got a sudden hot flash that felt like I was sitting in a sauna. Felt it from top of my head to my lower back.

9:00 Asked Joe to check the burn on my arm. It looks good. Blistering has already almost dissipated. It’s beginning to itch like the rest of my arms.
Applied clear calamine lotion to arms. Arms itching mildly today. I suppose the detox bath helped. Think the castor oil would be good for my liver detox.

Thankful for
1. Potatoes
2. Ability to preserve food as needed
3. God’s promises

10:00 two hours later and my body is finally starting to cool down. Eyes tearing from pain. Took pain rx.
