Hymn History:
Frances Jane Crosby was born to John and Mercy Crosby on March 24, 1820 in Southeast, New York. When she was six weeks old, she became blind due to an eye infection and medical ignorance.
When she was eight years old, she relocated with her parents to Ridgefield, Connecticut, where they stayed for four years. At the age of fifteen, she enrolled in the New York Institution for the Blind, where she acquired a good education. She began teaching at the college in 1847 and worked there until March 1, 1858. She taught English grammar, rhetoric, and American history.
Fanny Crosby wrote this beloved hymn out of gratitude to the Lord after receiving an answer to a prayer.
For the rest of the story:
Lyrics:
All the way my Savior leads me–
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well;
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
