The Secret Places, of our Life: Psalm 91 KJV – Angie Weaver
As we read our Bible, and live our daily lives we begin to understand, there are two main secret places we all have in our lives.
One of those places is the very best place to be. Dwelling in the secret place with God makes our life so much easier to deal with daily.
The other, I am afraid, is the one we spend most of our time on. I say “we” because I know I spend way too much time in this secret place, so, I am speaking from a personal experience.
I am speaking of that “secret place” in our heart that we don’t even want to go to. In the song ‘The Secret Place’ we sing about that place we don’t want anyone to know about. We forget God knows us even better than we know ourselves.
The song goes on to say how we walk many rooms of our heart with Jesus, but there may be a place we think He doesn’t know about; and we certainly don’t want anyone else to know.
Psalm 90:8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
We certainly as Christians know all about hidden sin and secret places, we’ve heard about it all our lives. We are also pretty quick to see others, but not our own. Therefore, we keep those hidden in our heart and maybe, we, forget about it at times. But all the while God is there with the key to unlock that door and cleanse us from that hidden sin, saying..He wants to make us clean “Let me go in that secret place”
Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
If only we will turn it over to God and allow Him to cleanse our heart completely, then, we can dwell in that Wonderful Secret Place!
The song goes on to say how we walk many rooms of our heart with Jesus, but, there may be a place we think He doesn’t know about; and we certainly don’t want anyone else to know.
Let’s talk about that Wonderful Secret Place;
Who can dwell in the secret place?
The song talks about Our heart being like a house and how one day we let the Savior in, this happened the day of our Salvation. Psalm 91:1 tells us.. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
So, if you have let the Savior in you can dwell in that secret place.
How do we dwell in the secret place?
We can dwell in this secret place with God simply by letting Him in to guide our lives.
Proverbs 28:13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
The Power of the Secret Place!
But then… we give God the key to our secret room, and He moves in and cleans us up, its then we learn about the power of ultimate secret place. The one mentioned in Psalm 91:1 is one of God’s awesome comfort verses! It brings overwhelming peace when we learn this,
Psalm 32:7 Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
Psalm 27:5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.”
The Benefits of the Secret Place.
Knowing that we can dwell in the secret place of the Lord is such a comfort. This verse is saying, IF we dwell in that secret place, THEN will God be there for us. The entire chapter talks about how God will be our Refuge, our Fortress and our Deliverer, how He is our Shield and our Buckler.
Psalm 91
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
