Old Fashioned and LOVING IT! – Amy Sapp

Jeremiah 6:16

“Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.”

Ladies, have you ever been called old-fashioned? I’ve been called that for everything from wearing skirts to knowing how to bake! I’ve even had teenagers tell me, “Mrs. Sapp, you’re kind of like old fashioned… but in a good way!”

Then I respond with.. “Call me Mrs. Amy it makes me sound less OLD.”

Today, I want to celebrate what it means to be “old-fashioned” in a world obsessed with new trends, new truths, and new ways. Because when God says, “Ask for the old paths,” He’s not talking about lace doilies and rotary phones… He’s talking about the paths that work!

– THE OLD PATHS STILL WORK

Jeremiah 6:16 — “Ask for the old paths… the good way.”

1. The world calls it outdated, but God calls it good.

Truth doesn’t go out of style. God’s Word isn’t updated every year like an iPhone.

The “old paths” of truth, holiness, grace, and family values are not broken.. they are our foundation.

2. Old paths are proven paths.

Your grandma’s recipes work because they’ve stood the test of time.

The same goes for prayer, obedience, church attendance, modesty, kindness, and Bible living.

Don’t apologize for choosing what works. Set your GPS on God’s Word and don’t reroute.

Just because something’s ‘vintage’ doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. If that were true, we’d have to throw out chocolate chip cookies and grandmas.. and we are NOT doing that!

~ GOD’S OLD PATHS BRING REST

“…and ye shall find rest for your souls.”

1. Rest is the by-product of right choices.

New paths promise excitement but often lead to exhaustion.

Old-fashioned values… like a day of rest, turning off technology, spending time with family bring so much peace. Just do it!

2. Old paths give us soul rest, not just nap rest.

God’s way is a deep, restful knowing that you’re living in His will.

The world offers chaos. The old path offers calm. Which would you prefer?

It’s like rocking on a porch swing with a cup of coffee while the world runs in circles—that’s old-fashioned rest!

How many of you all wish Walmart had a “rest” aisle?

~ HOW TO WALK THE OLD PATHS IN A NEW WORLD

“…walk therein…”

1. Be confident in your convictions.

Don’t be ashamed of modesty, motherhood, marriage, manners, or missions!

The world may say “you do you,” but we say, “we do Him.”

Be like Jesus! Christians = Followers of Christ.

2. Be consistent in your walk.

Let the young girls see that you don’t change with the trends.

Be a steady, joyful example of faithfulness. You follow what God says, not what the world tells you to do.

Start each day with the Bible (not social media).

Choose church over convenience.

Practice “old-fashioned” hospitality… invite someone over!

Write a card instead of a text.

Keep a prayer journal like your mama or grandma did.

I even use a paper planner. I’m not anti-technology…

I just like my to-do list where I can spill coffee on it.

“Stand… see… ask… walk.”

Don’t be afraid to stand out.

Don’t be ashamed to ask God to show you the old paths.

Don’t get distracted… walk in them daily.

I have an old pair of walking shoes… That I REFUSE to get rid of…. Ladies, they may not be fancy, but they’ve walked through storms, climbed mountains, and made it this far. That’s the kind of faith walk I want.

One more verse…

Proverbs 22:28 – “Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.”

If God’s Word set the boundaries, don’t let the culture move the fence.
