Two Journeys, One Heart: Aug 27–28, 2022 Reflections

August 27 – Moving Jordon to College

5:45 AM
Rough night. Joe was sick to his stomach a couple of times. He said his stomach was upset. I woke at 5:30 feeling pain and very hot.

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 26:3; Ezekiel 5–8; Philippians 4:6–7; Joshua 1:9

Today we move Jordon to college. Although I feel anxious, I’m thankful the college is only an hour away. My emotions are all over the place. Jordon left ahead of us for a job interview. I am praying that he gets the job.

Joshua 1:9:
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

We had van issues. It was making a strange noise. Joe thinks one of the pulleys is going bad, so we decided to go back home to get the Sequoia.

Jordon’s job interview went well. The owner told him, “Thank you for raising a kind and polite young man.” He also asked about Jordon’s life and said, “Thank you for your service.” That made my day. I don’t remember ever being thanked by a stranger for our service in the Lord’s army. We are praying Jordon gets the job.

I attended my first parent orientation at PCC. Whew! Lots of information. Good thing they passed out a booklet I can refer to later.

During lunch, I enjoyed time with my family, including my niece Tara. Jordon is all checked in and registered. I submitted his application for continued ministry at our church every weekend, pending approval by the dean next week. I felt blessed to see old friends and make new ones.

We were told Jordon could come home with us tonight and return tomorrow by 2:00 PM. We stopped at Buc-ee’s for a snack.

Once home, I crashed in bed for a few hours. I didn’t want to get up, but I needed to finish the bulletin and figure out dinner. I asked Joe to cook the steak while I baked fries. I could only eat the fries because my stomach couldn’t handle the seasonings.

Jordon gave me a big hug before bed. He’s having a hard time with this, and I am too. We’re encouraging him to go to college for a year before considering home correspondence. We want him to make friends his own age and have a positive experience.

10:30 PM
Bulletins done. Meat pulled out for lunch tomorrow. My whole body is hurting immensely. Night vitamins and pain medication taken. Exhausted.

Thankful for:

  • Safe travels today

  • Jordon’s job interview went well and owner’s gratitude for our Christian service

  • Smooth registration and move-in

  • Jordon being able to come home tonight

  • Offering rides to Dezirae’s LBA classmate

August 28 – Church, College, and God’s Blessings

6:30 AM
Slept all night, but I hurt all over, as if I ran a marathon untrained. Eyes watering. Awful taste in my mouth.

Scripture Reading: John 6:29

8:20 AM
Getting ready to leave for church. When I mentioned the taste in my mouth, I immediately started vomiting. Thankfully, I was near the trash can. It was frustrating, but I felt okay afterwards and decided not to let it stop me from attending church.

On the road, I received a call from Jordon. He had no power, so we had to turn around to give him a jump. The devil is fighting, but we keep moving forward.

We stopped at the grocery store to get cake for tonight and a few items for Jordon to take back to college.

At church, it felt good to serve. The kids helped put supplies away, and I put kitchen towels in order. Later, I heard one of our members needed food, so I packed some from our pantry. Thank You, Lord.

Lunch was quick. Jordon needed to leave by 12:40. Hard to see him go, but I know he should be back next weekend to help serve at church. I was able to give him an iron he forgot. I tried to lighten the mood with a joke about our Quintet being down to a trio, but it made Joe cry. I comforted him and reassured him.

1:30 PM
My friend came for a visit and brought me a mug with the saying, “Beautiful Girl, you can do hard things” and Philippians 4:13 written out. Such encouragement!

I laid down for a couple of hours. Joe later let me know Jordon had spoken with his brother Jakob, who encouraged him. Jordon also met a roommate from Wyoming who hunts, answering one of his prayers. Thank You, Lord.

Decided to work on the next bulletin board. Went into the flower room looking for items, got distracted purging old items, and finally set up the board. I know I’ll feel this workout later.

My sister and nephews surprised us by coming to church tonight. Holly brought a love offering from her church. I had just prayed for extra funds to help with my cancer fight — what a blessing! I sent a thank you message to the Pastor.

On the way home, I talked briefly with Jordon. He was eating dinner with his roommates and seemed happy. Sweet music to this mom’s ears. I prayed for his protection, wisdom, peace, and joy.

Evening:
My whole body is throbbing. Nerves stinging. Low back and right hip throbbing. Night vitamins and pain medication taken.

Thankful for:

  • Encouragement mug from a friend

  • Love offering to supply a need

  • Jordon settling in at college

  • Ability to help Jordon get packed and ready for college
