Focus on Jesus / Not Ourselves – Korri Cowen

I love a funny Snap Chat Selfie. It’s a lot of fun to play around with the different

pictures. It takes away the wrinkles and smoothed out the skin and fixes our perceived flaws. Some people are more into themselves than they are their Bible or spending time with Jesus. If you look at the photos on some phones, there are more pictures of themselves then of other people and things. This is looking at ourselves instead of Jesus and loving ourselves more than loving Jesus

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:2-5

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

We are focused on ourselves and not on Jesus

Philippians 2:21

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

God wants us to listen and focus on Him.

Psalm 46:10

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The best way to do that is to follow

Colossians 3:2

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Set aside time with Him every day.

Read you Bible daily, talk to Him, and listen to good uplifting Christian music. Listen to

uplifting podcasts, pray for others, get involved in your church and let God work through you.

Remember

Philippians 4:13

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God’s word is the best help there is!

Proverbs 16:3

3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

This will help us to focus on Him and not on ourselves.

Romans 12:2

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Isaiah 41:10

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

When our focus is on Jesus we are filled with His perfect peace

Isaiah 26:3

3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

In this day and age of me, me, me… maybe what we should be saying is Him, Him,

Him being Jesus Christ. The author and finisher of our faith.

I want to encourage you each day to start your day by singing “Jesus Loves Me this I

know” before your feet hit the floor. Pray and ask the Lord to guide our steps and allow

Him to give us opportunities to be a witness and an encouragement to others.

Instead of selfies and all things us maybe we need to consider others more and make all things about the Lord.

Put down the phone for a while and pick up the book, the Bible and see what God has

to say to you today. See where He takes you and how He can use you to help others.

Psalm 118:24

24 This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Make today great, make today about others and not ourselves.

Focus on Jesus!
