Armor of God Devotional: Daily Prayer & Scripture from Ephesians 6

Introduction to the Armor of God 12-Month Series

Welcome to this Armor of God devotional! Over the coming year, we will explore each piece of God’s spiritual armor and how it equips us to stand firm in faith, resist temptation, and walk boldly in His truth. Life can often feel like a battlefield, but the Lord has given us divine protection and strength through His Word.

Each month, we’ll dive into Scripture, reflect on practical applications, and pray for God’s power to help us live victoriously. Let’s embark together on this transformative journey of faith, courage, and spiritual growth.

Putting on the Armor of God

Scripture: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11 (KJV)

The battle we face is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces that seek to harm us. God calls us to put on His armor daily—not in our own strength, but in the power of His might. Just as a soldier equips himself before entering battle, we must clothe ourselves with God’s protection: truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God.

Putting on the Armor of God is an intentional act. It requires awareness, prayer, and commitment. Each morning, take a moment to ask the Lord to help you equip yourself. Visualize each piece as a spiritual covering, guarding your heart, mind, and soul. When trials come or fear rises, remember that you are not fighting alone—Christ Himself strengthens you.

Why Should We Practice Putting on the Armor of God?

Practicing the Armor of God turns spiritual truth into daily living.

  1. Spiritual Readiness – Daily preparation enables us to stand firm when challenges arise.
  2. Dependence on God – The armor reminds us that our strength comes from the Lord, not ourselves.
  3. Discernment – Regular practice helps us recognize temptation and deception.
  4. Consistency in Faith – Daily prayer and Scripture strengthen our walk with God.
  5. Everyday Protection – The armor guards our hearts and minds through stress, doubt, and conflict.
  6. Cultivated Victory – Faithful practice trains us to respond to trials with God’s strength.

Practicing the Armor of God builds discipline, awareness, and readiness—helping us stand firm, not in our own might, but in the Lord’s power.

When Should We Practice Putting on the Armor of God?

We put on the Armor of God daily and intentionally—not only in moments of crisis.

  • At the start of each day to prepare our hearts and minds
  • Before challenges or decisions that require wisdom and strength
  • In moments of weakness when discouragement or fear arises
  • Throughout the day through prayer and Scripture
  • Before prayer or ministry as we serve others in truth and confidence

Putting on the Armor of God is a proactive, daily discipline—a mindset of readiness rooted in reliance on Him.

What does it mean to put on the Armor of God?

Putting on the Armor of God daily means intentionally equipping yourself with God’s spiritual protection and strength every day, not just in moments of obvious trial. It’s both a mindset and a spiritual practice, rooted in dependence on God rather than your own abilities. Here’s what it involves:

Active Use of Each Piece

  • Belt of Truth: Live anchored in God’s truth
  • Breastplate of Righteousness: Guard your heart with integrity
  • Shoes of Peace: Walk in peace, ready to share the gospel
  • Shield of Faith: Deflect doubt and fear
  • Helmet of Salvation: Secure your identity in Christ
  • Sword of the Spirit: Use God’s Word against lies and temptation
  • Prayer: Pray continually, seeking God’s guidance, strength, and protection. Prayer activates every piece of the armor, keeps you alert, and connects you to the Lord’s power in all situations.

Putting on the Armor of God daily is about living with spiritual awareness, depending on God moment by moment, and actively applying His Word and protection to every area of your life. It’s a lifestyle of preparation, not just a one-time ritual.

Application:

  • Pray each morning and intentionally “put on” each piece of God’s armor.
  • Identify areas of vulnerability in your life and ask God to strengthen you there.
  • Memorize Ephesians 6:10-11 to remind yourself that your strength comes from the Lord.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to put on Your armor daily, through prayer and obedience. Strengthen me where I am weak, protect me where I am vulnerable, and guide my heart and mind with Your truth. Help me to stand firm in faith, walk in Your peace, and rely fully on Your power. Let prayer activate Your armor in my life today so that I may live in victory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
