What A Day That Will Be
Author: James Hill (1930 – 2018)
History:
“What a Day That Will Be” was written by James Hill in 1955. The title phrase lingered in his heart after hearing an orphan girl end a song with the words, “What a day that will be.” Years later, Hill was deeply moved by the suffering of his mother-in-law, who had been left paralyzed by a stroke. As he reflected on her trials and the hope of Heaven, the words of the hymn came to him. When Hill and his family sang it for her, she smiled for the first time in years—an experience Hill saw as a special encouragement from the Lord. Inspired by Revelation 21:4, the hymn continues to comfort believers with the promise of a future day free from sorrow, pain, and death.
Lyrics
Verse 1
There is coming a day
When no heartaches shall come
No more clouds in the sky
No more tears to dim the eye
All is peace forevermore
On that happy golden shore
What a day, glorious day that will be
Chorus
What a day that will be
When my Jesus I shall see
When I look upon His face
The One who saved me by His grace
Then He’ll take me by the hand
And lead me through the Promise Land
Oh what a day, glorious day that will be
Verse 2
They’ll be no sorrow there
No more burdens to bear
No more sickness and no more pain
No more parting over there
And forever I will be With the One who died for me
Oh what a day, glorious day that will be
