🕊️ About the Author:
Eliza Edmunds Hewitt (1851–1920) was a Philadelphia schoolteacher whose life took an unexpected turn after a serious spinal injury left her homebound for years. During this season, she deepened her faith, studied literature, and began writing poems for her church’s children’s ministry. Her words were later set to music, resulting in hundreds of beloved gospel songs marked by joy and hope. Despite physical suffering, Hewitt’s love for Christ and desire to serve others shone brightly—reflected in both her ministry and her friendship with fellow hymn writer Fanny Crosby.

Nor any ill forebodes,
But at the cross of Calvary, sings,
Praise God for lifted loads!

Praising the Lord, praising the Lord,
Singing I go along life’s road,
For Jesus has lifted my load.
