Everyone has, at one point, been in a situation where they feel like they are caught in the middle of a raging storm, watching the floodwaters rising, and wondering how they got there. They’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and feel like there’s no land in sight! As they feel like they are going under for the last time, they wonder, “Where’s God?”
Let me assure you, as a believer in Christ, God is right there with you. He’s waiting for you to completely trust in Him and ask for His help.
It’s in the midst of the storm that we must decide whether to allow God to use the storm to help you or allow it to destroy your faith and separate you from God. It can be extremely easy to become bitter in the midst of trials and turn away from everything God has planned for your life.
It is easy to feel alone and as if no one sees or cares about you, but I assure you that God is right there with you and wants to help you if you will let Him. From our perspective, it is sometimes hard to understand why God allows us to endure storms in this life. Remember that God always has a plan and a purpose.
I know that sometimes it’s hard to understand what God is trying to teach in the midst of our storms, but I firmly believe that God will bless us abundantly as long as we remain faithful.
How do we trust God in the midst of the storm?
When storms come, and they will, even knowing that God is the Almighty isn’t always enough, and we start to have doubts. How do you trust God in the midst of the storm?
- Pour your heart out to God in prayer. He already knows your thoughts and feelings.
(Psalm 94:11; Psalm 139:23-24; Proverbs 16:3; 1 Corinthians 3:20)
- Remember that God hears and answers every prayer. However, it may not always be in our timing or to our liking.
(1 John 5:14-15; 1 Peter 3:12; Jeremiah 33:3; John 14:13; 1 John 3:21-22)
- Meditate on God’s Word. Purpose to spend time in the Bible daily. It doesn’t happen by accident.
(Joshua 1:8; Psalm 1:1-6; Matthew 4:4)
- Surrender your storm to God – the storms of life are never meant to be endured alone. Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them at His feet.
(James 4:7; Proverbs 3:5-6; ; Psalm 37:5; Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7)
- Seek the Lord in all you do. His plan for your life is perfect and intended for our benefit, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
(Matthew 6:33; Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28; 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14; 2 Timothy 1:9)
It can be challenging to hold on to all the promises we’ve learned throughout the good days when we are suffering through the storm. However, the storm is frequently utilized to reinforce lessons that we already knew while everything was going according to plan. The truth is that we require storms. These times in life may be difficult and uncomfortable, but they stretch and grow us. And they help us learn how to comfort others along the way (2 Corinthians 1:4).
