Heroes of the Faith

I’m not sure if it’s due to my acquired brain injury which challenges my memory a lot or if I just never put the two pieces together, but recently in my quiet time with God I was directed to read the following passage…

Hebrews 11:32-40
And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

I had to read the passage several times to comprehend what I was reading. After about the fourth time, a light bulb clicked on and my mind was blown!

This passage is giving clues to stories interwoven in the scriptures of the Heroes of the Faith!!!

I remember hearing preaching about the first half of this chapter, because Hebrews 11 is known as the Faith’s Hall of Fame of the saints.  However, I don’t recall ever hearing about the last part. I know I’ve read it multiple times but never really understood what was being told.

The latter passage of Hebrews 11 is a summary of additional lives of great men and women of faith.  Many of whom endure great hardships in life yet they kept a steadfast faith in God. I believe each of them had a close personal relationship with God and communed with Him in prayer daily.

The key to keeping steadfast in your faith and keeping your godly armour strong is effectual fervent prayer (James 5:16).

On the Scripture Journaling Calendar this month, each day I will have a Hero of the Faith listed and the passage. It will also have one of their prayers from either before, during, or after their battle or trial. I hope it is as encouraging and exciting to you as it has been for me.

P.S. This one is taking me a little longer to put together so please be patient.  I will post the calendar as soon as I get it finished.  Thank you for your patience.   I look forward to hearing your input as well.
