Joshua – conquered a kingdom
(Joshua 6:1-27)
Joshua 6:2 And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
I grew up learning about the faith of Joshua and Caleb. How twelve men went to spy in Canaan. Two men brought back good reports while ten men had bad reports. Joshua and Caleb still kept to their faith and followed the Lord.
I remember singing in Sunday School about Joshua fighting the battle of Jericho. How the people had to march a specific way for one week in order to conquer their foes.
I never comprehended that Joshua went on to conquer the whole kingdom nor how large the city of Jericho was. The city of Jericho was built thousands of years prior to Joshua being born so it was well established. It had walls up to 25 feet high and in some places 20 feet thick. Soldiers were placed strategically on top of the wall to keep guard. Jericho was a symbol of strength and power and considered invincible.
Joshua and his mighty men of valour with God’s help conquered Jericho putting fear in the hearts of all Canaanites. It showed that God was the All Mighty God.
